About the Site

The site was first launched in 1998 in an effort to address the severe lack of sites dealing with highlighting the work of the fire services in Ireland. Even today there are hardly any brigades which have their own official websites apart from a mention or a few integrated pages on their Local Authority sites.

From that first site which had six pages and some horrible paisley style design and colours (we learn by our mistakes!) the site has evolved as l learned a bit more about web design and aquired more information through research and contributions from fire and ambulance personnel around the country. l have built several versions of which this one built in 2010 is the latest using a Joomla content management platform and the Artisteer template design software all previous versions were built using Dreamweaver.

Hopefully now with the Joomla system l can use it as a powerful base to built up useful content on the site and yet still have the capacity to change the design without having to re-input all the content.

Ideally l would love to have up to date information on items such as union issues, technical information on new hazards, new techniques and of course the usual information on our service around the country. Hopefully with your help we can keep the site up to date with the changes out there. The Joomla system will allow me to authorise people to take charge of relevant pages but not ones unrelated to them.

Over the years l have had visitors from all over the world visit Dublin after first making contact through the site and long may that continue.

The site at the end of the day is for your benefit and l am grateful for any help, contributions or suggestions l can get.
