Approval has been granted for recruitment of 66 firefighters made up of two classes next year. First class predicted to start in January. Should be advertised within the next month, I'd presume on Publicjobs.ie as before.

Let the fun begin!!!!!!!

No, straight in Firefighter training apparently.

I'm sure there will be more details over the next week or so.

Has anyone an idea of what the process is for the 'potential' recruitment drive e.g. application, aptitude test, written test etc?  Or has this to be decided on yet?

I was speaking to a friend today who works for the pas and they were unaware of any pending dfb recruitment. It may still be a bit soon and it hadn't filtered through but they did say they normally know in advance when something is pending

DCC C.E. wants internal recruitment now. Renaging on a commitment to the original plan of an open competition.

Memo has been circulated today 3rd July from SIPTU on balloting members for industrial action due to this situation and the safety implications to both FF's and the general public with regard to manning levels.

The job need fresh blood, ridiculous situation.

Are the thousands of LA employees, craft workers etc not good enough for the DFB?  Are they not fresh blood?  Or maybe the real reason is that the convener and his section committee have family members that they want to get in to the job so they need an external competition.

They refused point blank to support the ESCOs and they have a legitimate right to some of the proposed positions.  Those people did two aptitude tests to get in to the DFB.  There was no ballot for industrial action to help them.

Everybody in the DFB have been sold a pup on this one.  It stinks to high heaven.

Maybe the convener should sit with the lads when having his dinner and not with management.

Sure if it's more than likely going to be internal the ESCO's can apply?

When I say fresh blood I mean as in youth. Last I heard there is 7 people under 30, next year 4. And I can only presume that this is reflected throughout the LA's due to little recruitment.

In regards the ESCO's, the aggrement is there to be honoured when they do their time in the control room they will be trained up as firefighters. See no reason why this won't happen.
