Calls are not "vetted" as you put it. All calls are handled by ERCC as per the criteria laid down by Wicklow Fire Service. Its not the call taker that "vetts" a call, rather its a pre determined attendance defined by The CFO and Wicklow Co Co.

You're missing my point completely. ERCC dont "vett" calls, they dispatch as they are required to under the pda criteria for each county. If each county sees fit to implement different turnouts to each type of call thats a matter for each respective CFO and their concience, and to be honest I dont know how half of them sleep at night. ERCC staff are blue in the face asking for a standardised turnout for the region ! Between RSFO's playing god and crews taking out vehicles which arent ordered its a disaster

There is no vetting of calls in the control room. However each county chief fire officer has submitted his list of PDA's to the control room.
(I have seen them). .When a fire call comes in to control the controller must check this list before making the decision on what to send.
Each counties list if different.
One county might send 2 pumps to a house fire while another might have decided to send one.
One county may have told control not to send the fire service to flooding or fallen trees while the neighbouring county will send out the brigade to such calls.
The controller can only alert what is on the list.
Sometimes this means not alerting anyone...because the list says so(eg. flooding)
The VETTING, as you call it, is done at a much higher level than control.

Back in the News today..... a 40 min delay in being allerted to an RTA in Bray despite repeated calls from the Gardai and Ambulance service according to the Mail on Sunday. It lead to heated exchanges when the brigade did arrive at the incident. One of the more disturbing things i found in the report are that RTA's and Derelict Domestics have to go through the RSFO first and are put in the same bracket as Oil Spills and Flooding incidents. In all honesty contacting the rostered officer about an RTA before ordering????!!! and as for the Derlict Domestics do they not consider that there could be homeless people in the building or possibility of spreading to an occupied peoperty???

Hers a tip for you, DONT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ IN THE PAPERS.Was there an official spokesperson from The Gardai or Ambulance service interviewed, or was it the oul' reliable "source". I wouldnt wipe my arse with the "Irish" Mail on Sunday.
In this case its an absolute lie. I work in The ERCC and can tell you categorically that on the PDA for Wicklow that there is no such thing as a derelict, its either Domestic or Domestic persons reported, and as for RTA's its very simple, theres only one category, the rest of the PDA is decided on the incident location. The RSFO is not contacted for an RTA providing the information given by the caller is accurate, i.e that it is an RTA and not oil spillage or scene clean up which most rural brigades no longer attend.
There are a number of groups in Bray with vested interest in trying to make out the ERCC is incompetent and that there is a need for a full time service in the town, neither of which is true.

I wonder was there any chance that the fuel spill from the vehicle mistranslated somewhere along the line to it being an oil spill form an rta , thus resulting in the RSFO being paged ?
I agree though that the Mail wouldnt exactly be the most reliable purveyor of truth in the news...
