Overview
Dublin Fire Brigades main training centre is called the O Brien Institute (OBI ) and is located at Marino on the Malahide road about 5 kilometers northeast of the city centre. The training centre is the largest of it's kind in Ireland and plans are currently underway for major investment and development of the centre.

The institute facilities include a comprehensive 3 storey breathing apparatus complex which can simulate everything from a hotel to sewers. A purpose built ship module allows for realistic ship firefighting training to take place and 4 fire behaviour containers show firefighters just how to tackle scenarios such as backdraughts and flashovers and training in compartment firefighting.

For standard drills a large drill yard with training towers for pitching ladders is at the rear of the institute along with a road traffic extrication area which always has a ready supply of cars to be cut up.

The main building itself houses various lecture rooms as well as dormitories for visiting course participants.
Of course fire operations are only one side of the Dublin Fire Brigade and the Emergency Medical side of things is also well catered for. A list of courses for both is included below but you should ring for details as course specifications can be tailored for your needs.

The Paramedic course for example is accredited by the Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council and successful candidates receive a diploma from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland to acknowledge their success.
Courses in addition to fire brigade staff are available to individuals and and organizations and if you are interested in finding out more you should contact the training centre directly.
